Ryan Beams is a Staff Fellow in the Division of Imaging, Diagnostics, and Software Reliability (DIDSR), OSEL/ CDRH. He received his Ph.D. in Optics from the University of Rochester advised by Professor Lukas Novotny in 2013. Following his PhD he was awarded an National Research Council (NCR) Fellowship at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). He joined the FDA in 2018 and his research emphasizes optical characterization and the development of evaluation methods for augmented and virtual reality devices. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications in the optical sciences.

Kimberly L. Kontson received her B.S. from the Pennsylvania State University, State College, PA and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD in Biomedical Engineering.  She is currently a Biomedical Research Engineer leading the Human-Device Interaction Lab within the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Office of Science and Engineering laboratories, Division of Biomedical Physics.  Her current research interests include clinical outcome assessment development for advanced prosthetics, population variability of noninvasive electrophysiological measurements, and human performance and ergonomic evaluation during the use of augmented reality and virtual reality devices.

Naoji Taniguchi is CEO/CTO of Holoeyes Inc. Naoji worked as a game developer, computer graphics R&D, robotics application developer, media art developer, and interactive content planner for over 20 years. Naoji started prototyping VR apps using Oculus DK1 from 2013 and founded Holoeyes Inc. with a surgeon in 2016. Naoji is also working as a lecturer at Joshibi art and design university.
